I came up with my own theory for part 2 of “A Canterlot Wedding”. In each of the episode summaries shown on the MLP:FiM wiki, they’re all about how Twilight discovers a dark secret about the bride-to-be (obviously Princess Cadence). My theory is that Princess Cadence’s dark secret is Princess Cadence marrying Shining Armor just because she wants to upgrade her Princess status to Queen status. Now, some of you may think my theory sounds ridiculous. Hence the reason why I’ve come up with evidence to better explain and support my theory:
Twilight Sparkle is clearly shown to be unhappy with Princess Cadence. Secondly, it says in the summaries on the wiki for both part one and part two of the season finale that Twilight has “conflicting feelings about her brother marrying Princess Cadence”, showing that she does indeed have a hunch that Cadence is up to something, resulting in her discovering her dark secret in part two.
Next, watch the official promo for the episode. In the scene where Princess Cadence and Shining Armor look shocked, Princess Cadence shouts “What?!”. She doesn’t sound very shocked in that scene, now does she? No. She sounds angry. And look at the expression on Shining Armor’s face. He looks three times more shocked that Princess Cadence does. I think that in that scene, Twilight Sparkle confronts Princess Cadence right before the wedding, particularly when the minister (in this case, Princess Celestia) says “if anyone has a reason as to why these two shouldn’t wed, speak now or forever hold your peace”. Here, Twilight Sparkle confronts Cadence about how she’s using Shining Armor to become a queen, and she doesn’t have real feelings for the groom. Hence the reason why Shining Armor looks extremely shocked, and the reason why Cadence looks shocked and sounds angered.
Here’s my next piece of evidence. I’m sure we’re all up-to-date on the fact that there are clones of the mane six in this episode due to the promo. In my theory, when Twilight Sparkle discovers the dark secret, she immediately goes to Fluttershy, Applejack, Rarity, Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie and informs them on Cadence’s dark secret (in my case, the fact that Cadence is using Shining Armor). As a result, Twilight’s friends go to support Twilight Sparkle when she confronts Cadence. How do the clones tie into this? Watch the promo. The clones attack the mane six, and each of them look angry at the originals, including the Fluttershy clones. I think that Cadence creates the clones to stop the mane six from ruining her plan.
And now it’s time for my final piece of evidence. Looking back at my theory, Princess Cadence’s dark secret is to use Shining Armor to change her status from Princess to Queen. Now, consider this: Princess Celestia and Princess Luna are not queens themselves. IF Princess Cadence does end up marrying Shining Armor, she’ll be the first royal member in MLP:FiM to actually be given a Queen status instead of a Princess status. Wouldn’t that give her more power over Celestia and Luna, and possibly lead to her become the ruler of Equestria, considering a Queen status is more powerful than a Princess status?
